A native of Rhode Island, Jack Nelson has been living in Chiapas since 1996. For years he was a tour guide in Chiapas, visiting many indigenous villages, ruins and natural sites. He's been an avid photographer since he got his first camera at age 12.

"I see photography as a learning experience. I may choose a subject because I want to convey something to the viewer, but I always find I come away from a project with a better understanding of people and places I have photographed than I started with."
